Thunderstorms and Hail Lash Islamabad and Murree

As the heat intensified across much of Pakistan this week, a dramatic weather shift hit the northern regions—particularly Islamabad, Murree, and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa—where thunderstorms and hailstorms transformed the climate overnight.

🌩️ Sudden Storms Bring Relief from the Heat

Heavy rain, accompanied by thunder and hail, lashed Islamabad and Rawalpindi, cooling the air and offering welcome relief to residents. In some parts of the capital, the intensity of the hailstorm led to broken car windshields and damaged home windows.

In Rawalpindi, rain measured:

  • 9 mm in Golra
  • 2 mm in Bokra

Meanwhile, water levels remained manageable, reaching 5 feet in Katarian and 4 feet in Gawalmandi.

🚨 Flood Warnings and Response Measures

A vehicle in Landi Kotal was swept away by a flash flood, raising alerts for low-lying areas. In response, district administration teams, following the directives of Islamabad’s Deputy Commissioner, were dispatched to assess and manage the situation. Teams from the CDA and MCI assisted in critical areas like E-11.

❄️ Murree Turns Chilly Amid Hail and Rain

The hill station of Murree experienced torrential rain and hail, drastically lowering the temperature and giving tourists a surprising taste of winter in April. Locals and visitors alike took to social media to share the picturesque scenes.

🌧️ More Rain Forecasted in Northern Regions

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), more rain is expected in:

  • Upper Punjab
  • Northeastern Balochistan
  • Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
  • Azad Kashmir
  • Gilgit-Baltistan

There is also a chance of hailstorms in scattered areas.

🔥 Southern Pakistan Still Under Heatwave

While the north cools down, the southern regions remain hot and dry. The highest temperatures recorded in the last 24 hours include:

  • Dadu: 47°C
  • Sibi: 46°C
  • Multan: 41°C
  • Lahore: 39°C
  • Karachi, Islamabad, Quetta: 34°C
  • Muzaffarabad: 32°C
  • Gilgit: 27°C

✅ Final Thoughts: Enjoy the Cool Weather, Stay Alert

The recent weather change has been a blessing for many in the north. However, authorities are urging citizens to remain cautious during periods of heavy rainfall and hail. If you're planning to travel, especially to hilly areas like Murree, stay updated with official weather alerts and avoid high-risk routes.

Stay safe and enjoy the cool breeze while it lasts!
